Why Powdered Peanut Butter?

While I used to be completely addicted to creamy peanut butter, powdered peanut butter has become a staple item on my grocery list.  Originally, I bought this product as a way to make my protein shakes taste a little better, but then discovered how easy it is to make it into a peanut butter spread and even add it to my morning oatmeal or yogurt for a yummier taste without all of the extra calories, fats and often added sugars that come along with regular peanut butter.  I am seriously a peanut butter lover and some of you may be thinking, “there’s just no way I can give up peanut butter.”  I am telling you, YOU CAN! This powdered alternative can be used in such a variety of ways and depending on the brand you buy, is roughly 23 calories per tbsp, 1g fat, 2g of carbs and 2.5 g of protein!

Let’s compare that to your average jar of Jif peanut butter.  1 tbsp contains 95 calories, 4g of carbs, 8 g of fat and 3.5 grams of protein.  Okay, that doesn’t seem too horrible when looking at the macros, but when taking a look at the ingredients list, almost all creamy peanut butters on the shelf contain hydrogenated oils.  We all hear about these being bad for us, but do we even know why? These oils are typically added into the peanut butter to increase its shelf life, however in our bodies they are seen to increase our LDL levels (bad cholesterol) and decrease or HDL levels (good cholesterol).  Okay, so what? In simplest terms, this means these oils are causing more inflammation (AKA more fat) in our body which is exactly what most people are trying to avoid.

So, let’s talk the natural, no hydrogenated oil nut butters on the market.  While these have minimal ingredients in their list, with palm oil, salt and nuts being the major components, their high caloric density per tbsp makes them a less optimal choice when you are looking to slim down.  And let’s be realistic… who only eats 1 or 2 tbsps of peanut butter with their snack or breakfast.

Powdered peanut butter contains roasted peanuts and salt, and no oils making it optimal for a delicious add into your daily meals ! The powdered form of peanuts takes out much of the oils and fats that typically come with the nuts, making it optimal for weight loss and or maintaining  your health goals.

Mix it with water or milk and even add some cinnamon for the perfect sweet treat, without overeating unwanted calories!  So, to say the least, if you are looking to cut down on calories in your diet while still enjoying the foods you love, this product should be a go to purchase for you! At first you may find it a hassle to measure out and mix the product with water for a spread, but I have no doubt you will not only learn to love the taste and many ways it can be used, but also be on a better track to reaching whatever fitness and health goals you have 🙂
